Dealing with sadness: An instinctive emotion
Sadness is a natural
feeling of humans and associated with certain experiences of pain or loss that
makes us to value our lives. We all try to evade sad mood. Sadness can be an
outcome of loss, helplessness, or dissatisfaction, among many other factors. It
is a natural human emotion fuelled by sorrowed situations.
Humans experience
feelings of sadness and despair in response to antagonistic life events and it
is normal part of life. Such events are major life changes, stress, or
displeasure. In most cases, the sad feelings resolve the life stresses with the
changes in life.
When we become sad,
we lose interest in any activity, have low morale become lethargic, and want to
live alone.
When I was in 7th standard, I lost one close
friend which hit me mentally that I lost interest in all activities. Life became
miserable without her because I shared my positive and negative events with her
and after losing her, I thought that no one is in the world to understand my
feelings. She always supported me in my failures and applauded me in my
success. Slowly, I started memorizing happy moments spent with her in which my
friend helped me, sensed my sorrow before I uttered. And these positive feelings
gave strength to me to come out from sadness of separating from her. Now I
remember my friend as a nice human beings and supporter of my life. Such
techniques lessened my sad feelings.
Sadness is an
intricate emotional feeling that is difficult to cope up. People manage sadness
in various ways and it motivates people to deal with their situation. To lessen
the feeling of sadness, people must perform mindfulness meditation. There are
numerous ways to get rid of sadness. People who have sad feelings must control
emotions as it prevents these negative feelings to convert into depression or
suicidal propensities. To lessen sadness, they must first be acknowledged and recognized
in order to choose the best method to serve as emotional channel.
Another
effective way to reduce sadness is to start thinking positively as negative
thoughts can lead to feelings of helplessness and depression. While developing
joyful feelings, people can set healthy mind and think actions to explore the
root cause of sadness.
Other ways to
alleviate sad feelings is to get social support system like spending time with
close friends or relatives. Going for movie or plan some adventurous visit is
most suitable action to lessen a feeling of sadness. Music is great healer of
negative feeling like sadness. It is advised to listen music of your choice to
kick out sad feeling. Choosing favourite food also enhances mood and person
feels happy by eating good food. It is wise step to change the environment and
stay in illuminated environment instead of sitting in dark room. Doing exercise
like walking can help to lessen feeling of sadness because energetic physical
activities stimulate the production of the stimulant epinephrine and
endorphins, a hormone that enhances mood. In state of sadness, individual must
engage in hobby such as painting, playing guitar, reading books. These
activities can serve as a booster to release negative feelings and improve
mood.
To condense the
dialogue, sadness is a negative emotion which gives birth to several mental and
physical ailment. This is a sign of weakness and insufficiency. It is always
better to embrace positive outlook towards life and move on to lessen sadness.
