Benefits of Pre-implantation Genetic Screening

Genetic diagnosis is considered as an alternative to prenatal diagnosis. Pre-implantation Genetic Screening is a type
of genetic test design to enhance the success of IVF. Preimplantation genetic
screening, abbreviated as PGS is the process of determining the presence of
aneuploidy in a developing embryo. Preimplantation genetic screening is
conducted on embryos produced through IVF. In PGS, a biopsy is taken either from
the polar body of a mature oocyte or from cells taken from developing embryos
and genetically analyzing the composition of these cells.
This screening provides valuable information about genetic
health of embryo which help embryologist to select the best embryo for transfer
and improve chance of a successful pregnancy.

genetic screening is not faultless in its diagnostic precision. This chance of
misdiagnosis results from both biological and technical limitation.
