Anger is a major teenage mental health issue that needs attention to psychologists, mental health specialists and parents. Plethora of Mental Health reports signified that approximately 19 percent of young people receive mental health services treated with anger problems as it is closely associated with other emotional and mental issues. Anger differs in intensity and duration. It is also a reaction of other emotions.



There are solid grounds of developing anger in teens. One of the prominent cause is childhood trauma. Other pressing issues may be incidence of anger and violence. Substance abuse also trigger anger in adolescent period. Some medications erupt emotional and physical violence.       

Anger is common negative emotion and in normal course, it is not considered as serious mental health issue for teens. There are some symptoms of anger in teens which signify seriousness of mental issue such as self-harm, smashing out physically at others, damage to property, difficulty participating in normal activities at home, frequent tantrums and outbursts over minor issues, or running away. Destructive anger can lead to broken relationship and lost opportunities and respect. It may also result in low esteem and numerous health issues.

Controlling anger in teens is an intricate task because the same hormone that cause a teens body to grow and change also affect his or her mood. This can make it more difficult for teens to remain calm. Most teens strive towards independent. It can lead to conflict with parents and other adults.

There are some effective coping strategies to deal with anger. Qualified therapist figure out underlying causes and aid in teaching some techniques to tackle anger.  These strategies are relaxation techniques and mindfulness training which can be beneficial for teens to control their anger and viciousness. Cognitive behavioural training is also useful for teens to know the illogical views and provocative thought processes that trigger angry responses.

Teens must make efforts to develop strategies to successfully manage their anger. These strategies can be used to stop the acceleration of anger before they lose control and have harmful impact on their life and academic career. These strategies include both immediate and preventive strategies. Teens can use immediate strategies like taking a timeout, deep-breathing exercises, and thought preventing to control anger. Preventive strategies consist of developing an exercise program and changing ridiculous opinions.

It is recommended by therapist that teens must not suppress their anger. Therapists and parents must teach teens to always think before reacts. Yoga practice is effective technique for peaceful mind. Proper sleep and healthy diet plays important role in controlling anger.

Teens must recognize the difference between feelings and actions of being angry. It is important for teenagers to identify the causes of anger and their physical actions when angry. They need to know the dangerous outcome of anger.  It is highly suggested to develop prolific ways of expressing and managing angry feelings.
