Youngsters must know the main causes of light-headedness


Light-headedness is a medical condition in which person feels faintness. Person having light-headedness may experience clouded vision and a loss of balance. Light-headedness happens when person suddenly change his/her position from a seated to a standing position. This positional change may be due to low blood flow to the brain. This can create a drop in blood pressure that makes persons feel faint. People face such condition when they are dehydrated due to illness or inadequate fluid intake. Light-headedness may go together with nausea and dizziness. Dizziness is the feeling of being unbalanced or unsteady.



Light-headedness may also occur due to severe health issues like heart attack or heart beating out of rhythm, internal bleeding in organ systems, shock that causes a significant blood pressure drop or stroke. Major causes of light-headedness include dehydration, side effects of medication, sudden blood pressure drops, low blood sugar, and heart disease or stroke.


Light-headedness can be in mild form or severe. In severe light-headedness, patients display symptoms of sweating, feeling overheated, buzzing in the ears, partial blindness (especially feeling as if person is looking through a tunnel), and nausea or vomiting.

Individuals must immediately visit to doctor when there is significant blood loss and they feel light-headedness. Indicators of emergency situation are facial drooping on one side, nausea, pressure or pain in the chest, shortness of breath, unexplained sweating and vomiting.

In less severe medical condition of light-headedness, it is advised that person may drinking more water, take intravenous fluids, eating or drinking something sugary, drinking fluids containing electrolytes, lying down or sitting to decrease the elevation of the head relative to the body.
If the light-headedness take severe form, Patients must consume low sodium diet, antinausea medications, antianxiety medications, and consult physician.

Preventive measures:

To prevent light-headedness, person must change from sitting position to standing position slowly and avoid sudden changes in posture. It is recommended to drink plenty of water, or exercise intensely. Persons must avoid bright lights and wear sunglasses when outdoors. It is strongly suggested that people must avoid alcohol or tobacco, Antihistamines, sedatives, as they trigger light-headedness.

In concluding remark, light-headedness is an ailment that needs medical attention because person experiences faintness. In mild form, it can be managed through drinking plenty of fluid or taking rest. But if person is severely affected by light-headedness, they must consult doctor for prompt treatment.
