Importance of Image processing
Image processing is fastest developing technology. It is a key research topic
in engineering and computer science disciplines for scholars and engineers.
Simply stating, image processing
is a process to perform some operations on an image to get an improved image or
to gather some important information from it. It is a kind of signal processing
in which input is an image and output may be image or features linked with that
image. Image processing is wide spectrum phrase in contemporary IT field that denotes
to using various methods to process or enhance images. Experts perform
mathematical operations or algorithms as tools to process an image.
Fundamentally, Image processing
has three steps:
1. Importing the image through
image acquisition tools.
2. Analysing and manipulating the
image.
3. Output in which result can be transformed
as image or report that is based on image analysis.
Image can be processed by analogue
and digital image processing techniques. Analogue image processing can be used
for the hard copies such as printouts and photographs. Image analysts use numerous
fundamentals of interpretation by using these visual techniques.
Another technique, digital image
processing method manipulates the digital images by using computers. Data is
processed through three general phases that include pre-processing,
enhancement, display, and information extraction.
There is a huge demand of image
processing in diverse application areas like multimedia computing, secured
image data communication, biomedical imaging, biometrics, remote sensing,
texture understanding, pattern recognition, content-based image retrieval, and compression.
It is well said that in image
processing, developers and engineers can analyse quantitative data or numerical
data sets to alter the visual result. There are numerous purposes for
performing Image processing such as the retrieval of particular information
from an image, image recognition, image clarity or enhancement and pattern
measurement.
