Important tips to choose best therapist for Mental Disorder patients

It is necessary to know basic points before choosing a therapist. Many clients with mental problems have a big question that is how to choose an appropriate therapist for their treatment. They are looking for a therapist, but they don't have any idea which one is best for them. There are set guidelines, which must be followed when client wants treatment for mental ailment.

At first, client must contact a local hospital and ask if they have a mental health referral service. The best way to find a qualified mental health professional is getting a referral from a physician or health care professional that has experience working with a counselor or therapist is often the best way. Many counselors and therapists also offer free initial consultations. Client may take consultation from these counselors. It's important to converse to the therapist first and assure that client is comfortable talking to him or her. After reviewing the basic information (costs, location, professional qualifications), it is very necessary to confirm that therapist is friendly and responsive and client can freely discuss his inner feeling to alleviate his/her mental problems. Therapists have significantly different personalities and working styles. These factors had a major impact on how individual clients related and responded to each individual therapist.

Numerous researches suggest that psychotherapy is an important way to treat many mental disorders. There are many qualified therapists but being qualified does not, necessarily to be fit for every mental patient. It is very difficult task to choose the right therapist who can understand, find out root causes of mental disorder and provide solutions. Choice is based on client's own needs and characteristics. It has been revealed in many medical reports that the relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important factor in producing a positive therapy experience. Client must have to develop a therapeutic association with therapist in order to get good therapeutic treatment. First of all, they have to feel comfortable and secure so that confidence may be established. These factors are the basis from which a therapeutic relationship is built.

It is important for everyone to know basic points before choosing a therapist. These guidelines are mentioned below.

-It is necessary to judge that whether gender of my therapist matter. Clients have to make self-decision that with whom; he may be comfortable talking about personal issues. A male or a female therapist will release tension or other mental conditions.

-Secondly, client must have to make sure that it is necessary that he can share common values and beliefs with his therapist.

-Client must collect information from relevant sources that whether the therapist appears culturally competent. A culturally competent therapist understands client in relation to his individual culture, values and experiences. This does not mean that the therapist must share client's cultural environment. A qualified mental health professional or therapist is able to recognize, understand, and value his client's particular life issues or challenges.

-The important factor in deciding therapist for mental treatment is that the client must not always look for therapist who is licensed, certified or registered. Licensure, certification or registration is not a guarantee of competence. If the therapist has at least one of these credentials, he or she has probably passed some sort of comprehensive examination and has met certain educational requirements and supervised clinical experience. This would authenticate that this person has, at least, the knowledge necessary to be an effective therapist. It is probably wise to avoid a therapist or counselor who is practicing independently and who does not have at least licensure, certification or registration.

-Client must gather information about therapist's working experience in related medical field. Most research shows a strong relationship between good treatment outcomes and the therapist's years of experience.

-Another factor is theoretical orientation of therapist. A therapist's theoretical orientation will decide his or her approach to, and techniques used in, treatment. It represents the therapist's basic original belief system about the cause and treatment of human mental problems. Several studies have shown panic-focused psychodynamic psychotherapy is also effective in treating panic disorder. If therapist uses a psychodynamic approach, the focus of treatment is to help client become aware of his unconscious conflicts and fantasies, and to help client to identify the defense mechanisms that are influencing the continuation of symptoms.

Above-mentioned guidelines are initial steps in finding a therapist with whom client can build a strong therapeutic association. There are other considerations will, likely, play a key part in client's selection. For example, the therapist's fees, location and availability will also influence in making decision for therapist.

Generate awareness for lethal Hepatitis G virus

It is a blood born disease. Hepatitis G virus) is a recently described flavivirus which frequently leads to chronic viremia in humans. Although GBV-C is related with acute posttransfusion hepatitis, it is not clear if the virus is pathogenic for humans.

Scientists are still exploring dreaded Hepatitis G virus. The Hepatitis G virus was discovered somewhat in recent times. It is called hepatitis GB virus.

When people are affected with this virus, it does not show any symptoms and does not cause serious liver complications. Acute HGV infection has usually been mild and brief. Sometimes HGV can cause severe liver damage resulting in liver failure.

The method of detecting HGV is a DNA test. There is no precise treatment for any form of acute hepatitis. Patients should be recommended for bed rest, avoid alcohol, and have a balanced diet.

Studies indicated that Hepatitis G impedes with the progression of HIV. Mostly people are infected with this virus by blood transfusion. People with hepatitis A, B, or C can be co infected with hepatitis G. Since at the present, there is no vaccination available for hepatitis G. Patients with haemophilia and kidney disease are at risk of hepatitis G. An infected mother can transmit the virus to her newborn infant. Sexual transmission also is one of the possibilities.

 Risk factors:

-Transfusion and organ transplant recipient

- Injection drug users

- Hemodialysis patients

- Men who have sex with men

Statistical reports revealed that HGV has been reported in adults and children throughout the world and is found in about 1.5% of blood donors in the United States.

Infection has been reported in 10% to 20% of adults with chronic HBV or HCV infection, indicating that co-infection is a common occurrence

It has been observed that patients with hepatitis G may continue to carry the virus in their blood for many years. People must take precaution to avoid this disease. They should not share needles, syringes, or other equipment. Everyone must be careful. Do not transfuse contaminated blood. These are the ways by which we can lead normal life.

Beware of surroundings while on trip to Honeymoon

Honeymoon is a passion of newly wed couple. Our honeymoon was poles apart from others and we learnt a great lesson from dreaded experience occurred during that time. It was very sensational and cheerful moment for me to a trip for honeymoon. Since we were just married and quite exhausted after performing all traditions and religious ceremony. We really needed a break, some lonely hours to relax and make the same memorable as a life asset. After all functions were over, my in laws permitted us to enjoy happy moment in a nice hill station. They had arranged tickets and booked hotel for our convenience in Simla, a beautiful hill station lies in the Himachal region of India. Since we both were working so we had only two days to take pleasure in celebratory.

My mother in law gave me her unique long fur coat and stylish ornaments to get real satisfaction of an occasion. The entire family was very enthusiastic because it was the first marriage of new generation in the family. Everyone was willing to share one's best thing with me and I felt proud that I am part of such a nice family.

Ultimately, we left home for Simla at 4 A.M. My sister in law came to see off us. On the way to honeymoon trip, we both were sharing our hobbies, special events, college time funs, parties, and all about our families. After 2 ½ hours, suddenly our deluxe bus was stopped and driver requested us to get down from bus because roads were blocked. We then moved down and started searching for some typical place to sit. While walking, one beggar approached us and was continuously begging. My husband was reluctant to help as beggar was healthy and could earn money through hard work. But I suggested him to give some money. He then, gave some rupees. After walking few more steps, conductor shouted, "come back all of you". Roads were clear and bus was ready to go. We stepped fast and sat on our seat. I was feeling sleepy. I put my head on my husband's shoulder and slowly I slept. When I woke up, I saw bus was moving speedily and there was completely darkness all around. I was dismayed. What had happened? My husband told me; "darling we are passing through tunnel". Since I was in sleepy stage so I couldn't understand. After some time, bus stopped in small hilly village for refreshment. We stepped down and moved towards restaurant. When we were having breakfast, I watched few people were talking behind our table about blockade of route in last station. I was curious because I sensed there was some conspiracy going on. I fussed in my husband's ear. He was quite alert. After finishing our meals, we came back to bus and took our seat. But I was disturbed. After a while, bus started. We reached at Simla around10: 30 A.M.

We moved towards a hotel to freshen up. We started our tour by visiting temple. After the blessing of God, we visited Museums followed by Zoo. We had enjoyed all natural scenes of hilly places and captured them in our cameras. At one hill point, a small folk dance was going on. We joined them and had fun. It was very exciting moment for us. We couldn't get time to take lunch due to coverage of many attractive places. We enquired in localities about restaurant. People diverted us to another hill point. We walked towards the hill and saw one dhaba (small food centre). We were very hungry.   We ordered Chola Bhatura, (an Indian Punjabi meal) and finished our meals quickly.

At around 17:15 hrs, we were returning. While stepping down from hill, my legs were paining too much. My husband became worried and looked around for medication. At that moment one group of 5-6 youngsters approached us and asked what had happened. My husband asked them if they have any pain reliever medicine. They had small first aid kit. They gave us some ointment. I just applied on affected area and got relief after ½ an hour. While we were on the way to main road, those youngsters told that near to this place there was a very beautiful fountain. My husband thought why to miss such a place. So we decided to go there. Youngsters group were showing the way. Since my legs were affected so I was walking slowly and many steps far behind my husband. After walking uphill for 15 minutes I did not find any people or huts. Only shrubs and wild trees were there. I was frightened. My husband was walking with them most probably to reach early. I wanted to convey him that just return to hotel. But he was quite far and gossiping with them. Youngsters were talking about clubs, parties, and dances so he was taking interest. It was quite dark. Suddenly, I felt one member of that group was walking near to me. He was just adjoining me. He asked me, "call your husband immediately and come down by this narrow street because our group had some bad intention. They are rapist and they have no emotional feelings and moral rules". I was dreadful. He then warned me not to shout but deal the situation diplomatically. Youngster further told me since I am from good family background. You were also from nice family that's why I cautioned you. I understood the whole situation and called my husband loudly, listen, my legs are paining." My husband came back to me with medicine. I then told, "They have bad intention". We must immediately move down through that narrow street to which that angel like youngster indicated me.

After coming down from that street, we were on main road and returned to hotel. Till late night we were in trauma of thoughts of rapist's master plan which could not succeeded. I didn't have meals so my husband was trying to normalize me by creating romantic atmosphere. Still I didn't come up with agony. My husband lost his control and with in few seconds I saw him as strange angry entity. Unless I understood whole situation, he acted like rapist and I became unconscious till whole night. When I woke up in early morning, I couldn't find him. I looked him all around. After a minute I heard some awful sound from bathroom. I rushed over there. My husband was crying just like a child. Though I was not in a normal condition but I consoled him and took him to bed. I realized that series of incidents happened last night was the upshot of criminal nature of some societal groups. It was none of my husband's fault. My husband is a soft natured and high moral man. It was devil entered last night, due to effect of that dreadful episode happened with us. Next day I was not in a position to visit any place. I was quite terrified. We both stayed at hotel. As scheduled, we returned to our home with frightful and sad feelings.   My friends, relatives were curious to share experience of honeymoon trip. I was scared to detail about anything. Those rapists were the societal viruses more dangerous than any dreaded disease. Even now when I remember that event, I become distressed. No one has control over such type of crimes.

Bird flu - contagious viral disease

Species on earth bed are facing challenges of infectious diseases from time to time.  Bird flu is a contagious viral infection, which can have an effect on all species of birds. Outbreaks of bird flue (avian influenza) have been recognized in poultry flocks in most countries of the world for many years. In modern equipped world, it is a hot topic for laypeople as well as scientist to explore root causes and preventive measure.

Flu has been a usual scourge of humanity for thousands of years. Bird flu is a transmittable disease of birds caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. The virus is well adapted to immune systems to animals, and does not usually make them sick. This leaves the animals free to move around and spread the virus - just what it needs to persist.  Recent cases of anticipative and intrusive risk regulation include the ill-fated attempt to immunize every man, woman, and child in the USA in 1976 against a swine flu epidemic that failed to eventuate (Moore 1995: 110-48), the compulsory slaughter of over a million chickens in Hong Kong in 1997 as a response to a 'bird flu' that was considered to pose a risk of a serious regional or international epidemic, and the UK's ban on beef on the bone in 1997(Robert Baldwin).

History:

The disease, first identified in Italy more than 100 years ago, occurs worldwide. All birds are thought to be susceptible to the avian influenza though some species, such as wild ducks, are more resistant than others. Domestic poultry, such as chickens or turkeys, are particularly susceptible.  Infection triggers a wide spectrum of symptoms in birds, ranging from mild illness to a highly contagious and rapidly fatal disease resulting in severe epidemics. In severe cases, the flu is characterized by a sudden onset of severe illness, and rapid death, with a mortality that can approach 100 percent. (Cnn).

The virus was first isolated from birds (terns) in South Africa in 1961. Avian influenza A (H5N1) was first recognized in 1997 in Hong Kong. Bird flu outbreaks in Asia have prompted the cull of tens of thousands of ducks and chickens to curtail the disease's spread. As the human death toll continues to grow, many are concerned that the virus will mutate and trigger a human pandemic (Nature, UPDATED 25 AUGUST 2004).

In 2003, H7N7 avian influenza affected poultry flocks in the Netherlands, leading to one human death amongst 83 affected people. Culling affected flocks halted the outbreak. H5N1 has recently re-emerged in many Asian countries in slightly altered form. The disease has been confirmed among poultry in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Millions of poultry have been slaughtered. The disease has also infected humans in Vietnam and Thailand and deaths have been reported.

The spread of a lethal strain of bird flu in the past two years has sparked fears of a new pandemic. Although more than 200 people have contracted the H5N1 virus, experts point out that cross-infection to humans is still relatively rare, and usually occurs where people have been in close contact with infected birds. Many scientists fear migrating birds to Europe and Africa may carry it but say it is hard to prove a direct link. Others argue that farming methods and human lifestyle could be accelerating the spread (BBC).

15 different types of avian influenza viruses routinely infect birds around the world. H5N1 virus is highly contagious among birds and rapidly fatal. It can be transmitted to humans, causing severe illness and death. Bird Flu is a disease of viral etiology that ranges from a mild or even a symptomatic infection to an acute, fatal disease of chickens, turkeys, guinea fowls, and other avian species, especially migratory waterfowl. The Avian viruses, along with the other influenza viruses, make up the virus family Orthomyxoviridae. The virus particle has an envelope with glycoprotein projections with hemagglutinating and neuraminidase activity. These two surface antigens, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), are the basis of describing the serologic identity of the influenza viruses using the letters H and N with the appropriate numbers in the virus designation e.g., H7N2.

The main carriers of this virus are Wild waterfowl. They can be responsible for the prime introduction of infection into domestic poultry. When avian influenza spreads to poultry or other birds, it can cause more severe diseases. Among domestic poultry species, turkeys are more commonly infected than chickens. All birds are thought to be susceptible to infection with avian influenza, though some species are more resistant to infection. If the disease is severe, it can only be eradicated by slaughtering all birds in affected flocks.

In most cases, it has been observed that people suffer from bird flu will recover in one to two weeks, but some people will develop life-threatening complications (such as pneumonia). Elderly People, people with chronic medical conditions, and very young children are more likely to get complications such as Pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinus and ear infections from bird flu.

Waterfowl act as a reservoir of avian influenza virus by carrying the virus in their intestinal tract and shedding it in their faeces. Avian influenza viruses are spread to susceptible birds through inhalation of influenza particles in nasal and respiratory secretions and from contact with the faeces of infected birds.

A person can spread the flu starting one day before he or she feels sick. Adults can continue to pass the flu virus to others for another three to seven days after symptoms start. Children can pass the virus for longer than seven days. Symptoms start one to four days after the virus enters the body. The incubation period is usually 3 to 7 days.
The symptoms can vary from a mild disease with little or no mortality to a highly fatal, rapidly spreading epidemic (highly pathogenic avian influenza) depending on the infecting virus strain, host factors, and environmental stressors. It is considered to be a contagious disease and the main way that influenza viruses are spread is from person to person in respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes. Common symptoms consist of coughing, sneezing, ruffled feathers, swelling of the skin under the eyes, blisters on the combs, swollen heads, nervous signs like depression, and diarrhea. In some cases, birds die rapidly without clinical signs of disease. Client also complaint for fever, headache, tiredness, sore throat,

After getting infection, affected person should drink plenty of liquids, avoid using alcohol and tobacco, and take medication to relieve the symptoms of flu. Antiviral Medications can also be used to prevent the flu. Though virus causes it, so antibiotics (like penicillin) don't work to cure it. The best way to prevent the flu is to get an influenza vaccine (flu shot). Reye syndrome, a rare but serious illness is often observed when children and teenagers who have influenza are taking aspirin.

Wildlife circles have been debating on whether or not wild birds are spreading the virus around the globe. Experts believe they are playing a role but most believe poultry movement, poultry products and poultry manure is the main cause of the spreading of the virus.” But probably not in this case," said Thiermann. "While it's too early to blame the wildlife, it's very likely to be in an area that's remote enough that it's not likely to be associated with international trade.

Statistical data indicates that in 1997, avian influenza A (H5N1) infected both chickens and humans. This was the first time an avian influenza virus had ever been found to transmit directly from birds to humans. During this outbreak, 18 people were hospitalized and 6 of them died. In 2003, two cases of avian influenza A (H5N1) infection occurred among members of a Hong Kong family that had traveled to China. One person recovered, the other died. Since December 2003, 105 people have died from avian flu in nine countries, although the virus has reached birds in 48 countries.

Preventive measure:

The under mentioned preventive and control measures are recommended as per the WHO guidelines (WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, Manila, and 26 January 2004):

1. Cullers and transporters should be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment: Protective clothing, preferably coveralls plus an impermeable apron or surgical gowns with long cuffed sleeves plus an impermeable apron. Heavy-duty rubber work gloves may be disinfected. N95 respirator masks are preferred. Standard well-fitted surgical masks should be used if N95 respirators are not available. Rubber or polyurethane boots can be disinfected or protective foot covers that can be discarded.
2. All persons who have been in close contact with the infected animals should wash their hands frequently with soap and water. Cullers and transporters should disinfect their hands after the operation.
3. Environmental clean up should be carried out in areas of culling, using the same protective measures as above.
4. All persons exposed to infected chickens or to farms under suspicion should be under close monitoring by local health authorities.
It is recommended that oseltamivir be readily available for the treatment of suspected H5N1 respiratory infections in cullers and farm workers involved in the mass culling.
They should also be vaccinated with the current WHO recommended influenza vaccine to avoid simultaneous infection by human influenza and avian influenza and to minimize the possibility of a re-assortment of the virus's gene. Serological surveillance of exposed animal workers and veterinarians is encouraged.

Scientific view

Scientists fear the bird flu virus could evolve into a form that is easily spread between people, resulting in an extremely contagious and lethal disease. This could happen if someone already infected with the human flu virus catches the bird flu. The two viruses could recombine inside the victim’s body, producing a hybrid that could readily spread from person to person. The resulting virus likely would be something humans have never been exposed to before. With no immune defences, the infection could cause devastating illness, such as occurred in the 1918-19 Spanish flu pandemic, which killed an estimated 40 million to 50 million. Scientists explain migrating birds that flew south to Africa last fall and have now returned to Europe in recent weeks are not carrying the H5N1 flu virus. (Producer: Emily B. Hager)

Italian scientists have found the H5N1 Avian Flu virus, also known as the Bird Flu, in Nigeria. Tests done on samples in a laboratory confirm that the strain is the one that can kill people, although no human cases have been reported said the Paris-based United Nations body. This is the first time is has appeared on the continent.

Reports say tests of the virus closely resemble the virus in Asia. The virus has been discovered in poultry flocks in a large Nigerian farm. "It is the first report of the disease in Africa.

In nutshell, bird flu is a viral infection spread from bird to bird. Humans catch this infection through close contact with birds or bird droppings.

Know about skin problems in hot summer

Heat waves are blowing and these brings numerous skin problems. To curb such problems, you can use following tips:

Sunburn: The summer sun is so harsh that it can scorch your skin, causing red patches, and rashes that give a burning sensation. This happens more in people who have sensitive skin. Acne: This is the most common skin condition to some degree, but it primarily affects teenagers undergoing hormonal changes. Acne may be mild (few, occasional pimples), moderate (inflammatory papules), or severe (nodules and cysts). Acne is mainly a hormonal condition driven by male or ‘androgenic’ hormones, which typically become active during the teenage years. Sensitivity to such hormones, combined with bacteria on the skin, and fatty acids within oil glands, cause acne. Common sites for acne are the face, chest, shoulders, and back, the sites of oil glands. Acne lesions include whiteheads, blackheads, small bumps, and nodules and cysts.

To reduce acne, care should be taken to keep the skin clean always.

-People must carry face wash with them and wash thrice daily or whenever they think it is needed to clean up.
-Use a good facial cleanser every evening so that skin pores are free of dirt
-Use anti-bacterial face wash.
-Often acne might need medical attention. People may visit a dermatologist. They may need hormonal correction.

Dehydration: This conditions makes skin dry, irritated and more prone to sunburn. Your lips may start cracking and dry patches may appear all over.

Home remedy:

-Always have a water bottle with you and do not go without drinking once every half an hour

Heat rashes: Several factors make human skin irritable in hot summer. Sometimes dirt and dust clogs the sweat ducts of the skin, trapping the perspiration. This can cause itchy rashes, blisters or mini bumps. Clothes can make them irritable all the more irritable because of friction.

Following are the ways to fix this problem:

-Keep yourself squeaky clean, if you sweat.
-Bath twice daily, particularly so when you end your day.
-Use an anti-bacterial soap or bath gel.
-Keep yourself dry as much as possible.
-Rubbing the affected skin with ice cubes can help soothe the irritation. If the condition persists, visit a dermatologist.

Bacterial infections: Due to hot temperature, person may get bacterial infection. According to medical experts, People who use public transport and keep moving in crowded places are more susceptible to multiple bacterial infections.

Remedies for controlling bacterial infection:

-People must keep their hands clean and washed most of the times.
-Carry a hand wash and keep washing every couple of hours.
-Folliculitis is a common condition when the damaged hair follicles get infected by bacteria, resulting in inflammation. To prevent this use loose clothes, avoid using swimming pools which are not properly disinfected, prevent cuts when shaving.

Tanning: This condition develops when exposed to the sun's UV radiation, the skin's melanin reacts by forming a protective shield. The melanin results in dark pigmentation, either uniformly all over the skin or in patches on the skin. The result is in skin darkening, tanning or hyper-pigmentation.

It is advised to:
-Use sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and reapplying is important. Wear sunglasses to prevent dark circles
-Disengage the effects of tanning, seek procedures like laser skin rejuvenation, chemical peels or Microdermabrasion

In summer, most people have itchy, irritated and harsh skin. Therefore it is important to take care of skin to become healthy.

Strong energizer for youngsters

Enjoyment is the part of life but it is not a life.

Youngster’s life is visualized as enjoyable and entertaining. At the same time, they are passionate, adventurous, high risk taker and never bother what elders say. It does not mean that they disrepute their elders, teachers or parents. They consider that they are being watched by whole world and they must have to prove themselves as a powerful entity. As a result, they are fully distracted because of unknown problems happens in their life which they can’t discuss with anyone.

In response to their countless queries, it can be advised that they have to analyze obstacles of life. If they find there is something strange happening in life then they have to research the concept and resolve it at their level. Students can also take guidance from knowledgeable experts but please do not consult so called experts which can misguide. Don't get disturbed. It is a wonderful life and students/ people have to live smoothly. Do not ashamed to discuss problems. It has been observed that youngsters at college suffer from teenage pressure and they feel conforming to group is must to survive in college. Though, learning through peer improves life and youngsters can resolve numerous intricate issues related to family, social interaction but they must empower themselves to lead life independently and group conformity is not essential as it may sometimes corrode the life of youngsters when they involve in anti social act.

Youngsters must understand the notion that opportunities never wait. People must always search for better opportunity. Throughout life, all of us struggle a lot to lead superior living. It totally depends on what we possess. Our talents and capabilities put us to set a goal. Sometimes we miss opportunities due to personal problems and many times, circumstances are adverse to get excellent opportunities. This is a crucial moment of life and we should be very cautious to tackle such situation. If we fail to spot them, other one jumps to grab. It may lead to disappointment. May be such golden opportunities never come back to us. So youngster’s job is to look continuously for better opportunity and never overlook them when they knock at the door.

Youngsters are the strong pillar of social structure. Pleasure and excitement is the boosting tablet to make them lively but sense of responsibility, career development and developing as a noble human must be realized at this stage to retain humanity.
