Technophobia is rising among aged people in digital era

 In the digital age, people are more reliant on electronic devices to conduct daily activities.  These electronic gadgets are convenient, time saver and facilitate users to live decent lives. Risk factors are also associated with such advanced products which may jeopardize humans, especially elderly population. When people undergo irrational fear of using electronic devices like computers, robots, artificial intelligence, mobile phones, they experience technophobia, a serious mental syndrome.  Technophobia is an irresistible dreaded feeling of technical devices. people who are more generally concerned about the future, may grip technophobia.

Though technophobia is not listed in clinical records as a phobia, still it is considered as a specific phobia among people with the proliferation of pioneering technology round the globe. People may suffer from technophobia when adopting new technology is difficult and confusing which results in stress and anxiety. 

Individuals suffering from technophobia may display a range of symptoms such as being reluctant to use a new computer or phone, always criticizing novel technical devices introduced by companies, afraid of using ATMs or card readers and resist to upgrade software in technical gadgets. Physical symptoms of technophobia include shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, sweating, heart palpitations and vomiting.

There is no proven method to diagnose technophobia. Healthcare experts rottenly discuss with patients about the fear of technical devices. Mental counselors may ask patients whether electronic gadgets may disrupt family relationships.

To alleviate fear from technical devices, psychologists use exposure therapy, cognitive behavior therapy. In severe cases, doctors prescribe medication to lessen the symptoms of technophobia. To get rid from technology fear, a person must assess the numerous causes of mental strain and the initiation of stressful feelings with technology. It may be grasping to advanced technology or fear of being persecuted by fraudulent people when installing new software or Apps to avail many facilities online.  After reviewing such factors, individuals can converse with experts to clear their doubts about technology malfunctions that can trigger phobia.
