Mental health of people depends on environmental conditions. Major Depressive Disorder can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain due to stress, experiencing a personal loss, or a traumatic experience.

Major depressive disorder affects children, teenagers, adults, and senior citizens. It is considered as a serious mental disorder that powerfully disrupts the life of an individual. Major causes of depressive disorder are change in brain activity, the release and reuptake of neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine) in the brain, Childhood trauma, Hormonal Changes.

The main symptom of major depression are disturbed mood such as sad, hopeless, discouraged during most of the day, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, change in appetite nearly every day, leading either to weight gain or to loss of 5% of body weight, insomnia, sense of worthlessness or unreasonable guilt over minor failings and problems with clear thinking, concentration, and decision-making.

Diagnosis of major depressive disorder is done when a person contacts mental health practitioner with concerns about mood, changes in appetite or sleeping patterns, and similar symptoms.

Numerous treatment techniques are available for major depressive disorder. Psychotherapy and medications are effectual techniques in most of the cases. Psychological interventions, especially cognitive-behavioural therapy and similar approaches, produce good results in treating patient of major depressive disorder as compared to psychotropic medications.

 

According to mental health specialists, it is quite difficult to prevent depression. But some healthy techniques can lessen the impact of major depressive disorder.


Person must not live in stressful situation and increase resilience and boost self-esteem. When person exhibits slight symptoms of a problem, he/she must see the mental doctor to help prevent depression from deteriorating.

In brief, major depressive disorder is pigeonholed by a stubborn feeling of grief or a lack of interest in outside stimuli. It affects huge masses around the globe. Major depression is a serious mental condition for people and if immediate actions are not taken, it can be deadly.
