Tips for selection of subjects for administrative examination
It is a tough
task for aspirants to choose best optional subject for IAS examination. At this stage, many professionals offer
advice and students are confused which one is good subject to clear IAS entrance
exam.
In recent
syllabus for Mains, candidates can choose for only one Optional subject which
will have two papers of 250 Marks each. So, one Optional subject carries 500
Marks in Mains. It is well established that aspirants appear in examination come
from different streams such as Agriculture, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Law,
Literature, Management, Medical, and Science. Therefore UPSC has given good
choice of subjects among fifty two optional subjects. It is observed that
aspirants select subject other than their graduation subjects.
To crack IAS exam, aspirants may adopt following
criteria to pick an optional subject:
1. Aspirants are advised to read all subjects several times before
reaching to any conclusion.
2. They can review their academic sessions and analyse few factors like
which stream was their favourite, and in which subject they performed
well. It is also important to observe
the present performance level in subject. Some aspirants may prefer psychology
or others may choose anthropology.
3. It is important to review subject list again and prepare a list of
few subjects. O through the syllabus of each subject, previous years questions
and check availability of resources.
4. Once aspirants done above exercise, they can well understand which
subject suits to them. Further, they can make final selection considering
following factors:
Whether it is a scoring optional.
Whether
it is the most popular optional.
Whether
it is easy to understand or interesting.
Whether
for this optional ‘best’ coaching is available.
