Prospective career in customer services
Career as a customer care is
growing at speedy rate. The job of customer service representatives is to
provide help to customer, answering questions about products and services and
trying to resolve complaints. Employees of customer services greets the
customers, record information about customers and their problems, find
answers to customers' questions, recognize when problems are beyond their scope
and refer them to others, and interact with customers to provide information in
response to inquiries about products and services and to handle and resolve
complaints.
Candidates who have just
completed 10+2 or fresh graduates are usually given preferred for this job.
Selection is based on a personal interview with maybe a group discussion to
identify individuals with suitable personality traits. The demand for customer
services personnel is very high in today’s business oriented world.
Employers search for candidates
who are specialized and have good listening and communication skills, patience,
are personable and are effective at problem solving.
Some customer service
representatives work in an office and does general office work as well as
helping with people who come in or telephone. Others spend all their time
answering customer’s questions. Many work in dedicated call centers and they
are usually described as Telemarketers and Call Center Agents who talk to
customers on the telephone. Now companies are offering customer service via
email. Today all business maintains a service to deal with customers' questions
and resolve their problems.
These representatives must have
mastery over many skills. They must communicate clearly, speak more than one
language. They have to understand English plus one or more local/regional
languages, work well with difficult and sometimes furious customers, pay attention
to detail, follow an established procedure, explain things to people.
General office skills, sitting in
one place for long periods or moving around (as the work demands) are some
typical requirements and skills for all customer service jobs. Basic skills in
handling communication technology such as telephone, e-mail, public address
systems, computers etc. are important for all customer service jobs.
Good appearance, good personal
hygiene, clear diction, pleasant voice, a cool head with a warm personality and
a soft nature are important characteristics to get steep success in customer
services.
