Impact of traditions on innocent babies



Culture of any society has immense dominance on innocent mind of humans and they blindly follow the dogmas or cultural guidelines transmitted through their ancestors. It is highly appreciated that people give great honour to their descendants and enlighten their mind with their advice and norms to shape their personality and live high order life. This is the positive aspect of living with traditional values. But when these rituals are assaulting and intimidating human survival, then it is responsibility of people to explore innovative and feasible way so that they can retain the original family values and shield themselves from any excruciating act.

In crude form, culture denotes to the physiognomies of cluster of people, such as language, cuisine, social conducts, religion, music and arts. At global podium, there are diverse groups who espouse their cultural values and live according to their tradition. In positive sense, they represent themselves through cultural norms to wider group of global society.


Rituals and taboos of societies greatly influence the life of people and assist in developing civilized society in order to control felony or other mishap. These rules of society strengthen the network of people. But when traditional rituals dominates and disrupt the smooth functioning of human life, it greatly impacts human persona. Traumatic experience in childhood can have dangerous consequences at later stage of life. Person may develop phobias or they have difficulty in performing excellent task in their offices or in social situation.

In many parts of global village, children’s maltreatment through parents or caretakers are being practiced since primordial time. The practice of child exploitation was based on family’s cultural values, and their understandings that it will benefit to offspring. According to intellectuals, child abuse or maltreatment has two major elements such as harming a baby through precarious action or a harmful magnitude, and secondly people who are accountable for committing this action.  Child Abuse is any act, or catastrophe to act, that infringes the rights of the child that imperils his or her optimum health, existence and growth. In culturally dominated societies, it is well perceived that most perpetrators of child abuse are parents or close kinsfolks. In comprehensive term, child maltreatment is social construct. Damaging child’s physical or mental health under the cover of traditional rituals is a terrible crime.  In most of the country, there is a potent legal framework for punishment against such crime.

However, breathing in the epoch of globalization and espousing advanced technology to enhance living, some civilized group or people who intend to reform rituals has taken bold step to alter the tradition in order to curb child maltreatment. Practices of child mistreatment occurs across socioeconomic, spiritual, cultural, racial, and ethnic groups. There are numerous grounds of committing the crime of child maltreatment. There are several risk factors linked with child injury such as crystalized religious beliefs, dominance of elders or not ready to adapt in changing situation. There are some categories of people who can give ill-treatment to children whether knowingly or unknowingly like parent or caregiver, family, and relatives.


Children who belong to multicultural parents are more vulnerable to maltreatment as there are chances of clashes in their traditional beliefs. But in changing global scenario, multiculturalism is widespread and humans come forward to accept norms that are legally framed and healthy for societal growth. In real sense, people must respect those cultural values that provide satisfaction and augment the human life. Today, globalization propel individual to relocate form their geographical region and people are ready to modify their traditional activities but retaining their original sense. And this is the only viable solution to control maltreatment of child if it is stemmed through astute traditional concept that can easily be rehabilitated.
